Titan's curse

Author's note: I wrote this piece to demonstrate my understanding of theme.


What would it be Like if you were a Demigod? What would you do? In The Titan’s Curse by Rick Roadian , Percy and his friends have to survive to protect the ones they love. Survival is a major theme in this story, as well as other stories, for several reasons.

One reason is that Percy and his friend have to fight a giant lion in order to survive.
The lion attacked Percy but Percy fought back. Thaila, Percy’s cousin, a demigod too, was hit by the lion into a pole; however, she survived with a minor headache.

Another reason is that they have to fight skeletal warriors. The skeletal warriors keep coming back whenever Percy stabs them. They run away but the skellys keep finding them. Eventually, they hitch a ride on two metal angels and get away from the skeletons to survive.

Another story that has survival as a central theme is Warriors by Erin Hunter. The warriors are cats that hunt for their food and battle other clans for territory. An example of fighting for territory is Lionclan verses Bloodclan. Lionclan won and got their territory back to survive.  

The Lightning Thief by Rick Roadian  is another novel that focuses on survival of the characters.
A reason why survival is a main theme in the Lightning Thief is the kindly ones attack Percy on a bus. Percy and his friends escape just when the bus blows up. They lose all their supplies and have to fend for themselves.

In The Titan’s Curse, The Lightning Thief, and Warriors a major theme is survival. They have to fight a giant lion to survive in The Titan’s Curse. Also they must return a stolen lightning bolt to Zeus in The Lighting Thief.  Lastly in Warriors, the cats need territory and the animals inside to thrive. In the end, all of these books require fighting as a means of survival.

Ellie and Sieg

Author's note: I wrote this piece to demonstrate my understanding of predicting

What would it be like for you if you had no past? Meet Ellie. Ellie is a main character in Rave Master by Hiro Mashima. Ellie can’t remember anything from her past.  She is one of three main characters who are searching for the Rave stones. The Rave stones give anyone who bears them immense power. I predict that Ellie will die in the end of the story.

The reason that I think Ellie will die is that she bears a power called Aetherion. If Aetherion activates it will tear Ellie's body apart and destroy the world. However, there is a man named Sieg Hart that wants to kill her to make sure that it doesn’t happen.

Sieg Hart uses element spells like lighting and poison.  He uses his most powerful spells on Ellie to make sure he kills her.  Ellie is dying little by little because of Sieg’s spells.

These are my reasons why Ellie might die in the end. I feel bad for Ellie because she could get killed by Aetherion or Sieg Hart. Unless Ellie’s friends save her, it might be the end for her.

Raymond's Run

Author's note : I wrote this piece to demonstrate my learning of Character development.


“I don’t got most work like most girls do.” This line is from Raymond’s Run written by Toni Cade Bambara. The girl who said this is Squeaky. Squeaky is short and has a squeaky voice. Although Squeaky may seem mean at the the beginning of the book, she does change at the end.

One thing that made her seem mean is when Squeaky said: “That’s right fatso. And another word out of anybody and I be their mother too. ” This shows Squeaky is mean and bossy.  Another thing she said was: ”I always win cause I’m the best” . Squeaky thinks she is better than anyone else when she’s not.  However, during the story, Squeaky starts to change.

One thing that signifies she is changing is when Squeaky said: “I sorta like her for the first time.” The girl Squeaky was talking about is Gretchen.  Of course, in the beginning they were both mean to each other. However, in the end they were nice to each other.  A last thing that made me think she changed is when Squeaky said this about Gretchen: “Cause she’s good no doubt about it. “ Squeaky changed when she saw her brother and deidced to be nice to the other girls.

Many things Squeaky said made her seem mean.  In the middle of the book,  Squeaky changes and she becomes nicer to Gretchen.  This change was gradual and  happened throughout the story. It made feel happy to see a character change for the better the way Squeaky did in this story.

Rave Master

Author's note: This piece is about  Conflict/Resolution in the story rave master. I wrote this to demonstrate my understanding of Conflict/Resolution



In the book Rave Master by Hiro Mashima, the main conflict is between Haru and Schneider and it’s over power. Schneider is an assassin sent by Shuda who is Schneider’s boss. Schneider wants to kill Haru, however, Haru fights back.

Haru eventually wins the battle. He does it by slashing Schneider many times at high speeds with a magical stone. The stone is called the Rave of Wisdom. The Rave of Wisdom also gave his sword special powers that allowed him to move at high speeds. Haru was a hero in this story and he won the battle and got more power.   Rachel Ward

The fawn

Author's note: This piece is about  Cause/Effect in the story The Fawn. I wrote this to demonstrate my understanding of Cause/Effect.


Every morning, I go to the top of the hill to go on the bus  However, one morning when I was getting on the bus, I saw a fawn.  It still had some of its spots so it was very young.  I wondered why a fawn was alone since I didn't see any other deer.   

When I came home from school I saw a dead deer near my house. It looked like it had been hit by a car going too fast.  I realized that the dead deer must be the fawn’s mother. I felt sad for the fawn, hoping that it is strong enough to survive the winter. This is why cars should go slow so the wildlife in Wisconsin don’t get killed.

The Week We Got Oscar

Author's note: this is a Personal Narrative about the time we got Oscar 

This is a story about when my family got our dog, Oscar, right after Christmas two years ago. Before we got Oscar, we were up north in Minocqua.  We were up north because we were celebrating Christmas and an early birthday for me.  My cousin, Asia, came home with us for Christmas break.

A couple of days after Christmas, Asia wanted a hamster. We went to the nearest pet store to get one and there was a puppy there named Coal because he was a pure bred black lab. We bought the hamster and asked to play with the puppy. Coal looked so sad in his cage and when we played with him, he perked up.

After a while, we had to leave the pet store so we drove home with the hamster. Vincent, Stevie, Asia and I begged mom and dad to get Coal.  A little while later, my mom drove off and came back with Coal!  We were all surprised and in disbelief that we a got a puppy.

My mom said we should change his name, so we did. We thought of names for him. Stevie and I wanted to name him Shadow, however, my dad said it was a girl’s name.  Therefore, we all voted on Oscar.

We changed it to Oscar and Asia named her hamster Oreo.  We found out that Oscar’s birthday is October 13 so he is about to turn three.

When Oscar got home from the pet store, he was not that sad little puppy anymore. He was really excited and happy to be with us. From the start, he was a trouble maker.  He kept getting in the garbage and stealing our toys and stuffed animals.  When he was too naughty, he had to go to his cage. He went in his cage a lot but we still love him. No matter what he does, he is fun to have around.

Fairytail

Author's note: This piece is about retelling in the story Fairy tail. I  wrote it to demonstrate my skill of retelling.

In the begin of Fairytail one, there is a girl wizard named Lucy. Lucy meets nastu and happy the cat. They are looking for a dragon by the name of igneel. Igneel raised nastu but igneel vanished. Nastu and happy are still looking for him. A famous wizard named salamander  comes to the town there in . However he is a fake and nastu is the real one. They go to this wizard guild called Fairytail. Lucy joins Nastu and Happy already are members the master gives a speech and everyone cheers! One of the members is missing. Nastu ,Happy , and Lucy go off to save him.  Where they are is a cold mountain and Lucy gets cold so she takes a blanket.  A giant monkey comes and takes Lucy. Nastu and Happy , find Lucy and the monkey. The monkey is running around Lucy. The monkey pushes nastu out a hole and happy saves him. Lucy calls out a bull man that nastu accidently beat up. The monkey grabs the bull’s axe Nastu beats up the monkey and saves Lucy and the missing wizard. They go back to Fairytail and the wizards son is really happy

Spongebob Once a upon there was a sponge named  Spongebob. He works at a place called The Krusty Krab. His boss’ name is Mr.Krabs. His best friend is named Patrick Star. Spongebob has a neighbor named  Squidward along with another friend named Sandy the squirrel. Spongebob lives in a pineapple under the sea. His best friend Patrick lives under a rock and his neighbor  Squidward lives in a rock head.He has a pet named Gary who is a snail. Gary and Spongebob do a lot of fun things together. Spongebob has a great life where he lives and I would like to live there. One problem about living under water is that I can’t breathe without any help from an oxygen tank.Where would I live?

Should the United States drill for oil in Alaska? I don't think we should drill for oil in Alaska because it can harm the environment of Alaska. Drilling would be harmful to animals, trees, rivers and to the beauty of the land.

Alaska is the home to many animals like the Arctic Wolves and the Polar Bears. If we would drill in Alaska they might become extinct. We would have to cut down trees to make room for roads and pipelines. Leaking oil could harm the water quality of rivers and lakes in Alaska. If animals or humans drank that water they might die or get sick. Underground pipes and waste will soil Alaska's beautiful land.

We should not drill for oil because it will harm animals, trees, rivers and the beauty of Alaska. If all of these great natural resources disappeared or are ruined because oil drilling, then Alaska will never be the same.

Grama helen

Author's note :  i believe in ghosts


What would you think if your house was haunted?  In the book Ghost Hunt, there are many chilling stories that might just give you nightmares.   For me, the book entertains me because I like to hear or read about ghosts and the things they do.  The book explains how ghosts have the power to make people do strange things.

Miranda is a four year old girl and she is the only one who can see and talk to the ghost of Grandma Helen in her house.  Miranda’s mother is very worried about her daughter being able to see and talk to a ghost so she calls  the TAPS team, “The Atlantic Paranormal Society”.  They help Grandma Helen control Miranda.

Grandma Helen leads Miranda into the basement to find something.  Miranda has no idea what she is looking for.  She is pulled to an area with some boxes and the search begins.  After almost an hour, Miranda finds a cigar box.  After carefully opening the box, Miranda’s father finds a ring  in it.  

Miranda’s father decided to put the ring in pink tissue paper and bury it at the base of Grandma Helen’s tombstone.  Grandma Helen is now happy to have her ring back and now passes to the other side.  Grandma Helen stops communicating with Miranda.

If Grandma Helen had not lead Miranda to the basement with the boxes, one of her most treasured items would never have been found.  Do you believe in ghosts?  After reading this book, I believe in ghosts and I       think they communicate with people every day.

Author's note: the book is borring


“It was 1901 and I was patching up a tire when my bother Jake came in soaked to the skin.
“Twister” he said, so then we went back to in to the grape arbor. “ (1) These two sentences are from Here Lies the Librarian  that was  written  by Richard Peck.   I expected more action in this book and it  just wasn’t there.

Jake is 19 years old and the older bother of  Eleanor who is 14 years old . He is going to drive in a road race.  Jake was thrown from the car while turning in the air like a wrench and hit a tree in lap two.  He suffered a broken arm. The car hit the hay and wasn’t  damaged enough that it could not be driven by someone else.

After Jake got injured, his sister Eleanor had to finish the race for him.  Eleanor had to race eight boring laps. Eleanor’s tire popped and she had to finish the race going backwards. To her surprise she won the race. Unfortunately, she did not win  the  prize money because she was not registered for the race and she wasn’t the right age.  She was only 14 and she needed to be 16 to get the prize money.  .  

Except for the car crash and Eleanor finishing the race backwards  everything else in  the book was uneventful.  There was no action in the book and didn’t  hold my attention.  I thought there could be more car crashes and more cars hitting the hay.  All the book did was give me anxiety until the story was done.

This book is a fiction book about a brother and a sister living on their own.  Jake and his sister have suffered a twister and had finish a race to make sure that their enemies don't get  the prize money.  Although it seemed like an exciting start to the book, Here's Lies the Librarian was very uneventful and boring to me.  I prefer books with a lot of action in them.  While this book had some action, it was just not enough.

Cross Country Skiing Haiku

high heels are dangerous

 Author's note : high heels stink



Oh hello, I am Rachel Ward.  Many people wear high heals to be stylish or taller.  Women, children and sometimes even men wear high heals.  Shoes are considered to have high heels when the heal is four inches or more.  Even though many people wear high heals, I feel that they may be dangerous or harmful to your health.     

Heels this high are dangerous because you could fall and hurt yourself.  The heel could also break off and cause you to fall down or break your leg or sprang your ankle.  Your feet need to be flat on the ground to keep your balance.  It is also harmful to your feet to be wearing heals all day.   High heals cause your feet to be bent upward which can injure them.

High heals can also damage someone else's feet. If your high heal steps on someone else's foot or toe it can break their foot or toe.  As you can see, high heals can really be dangerous to you and other people.

Hello, my name is Rachel. Let me tell about my dog named Oscar. He is two years old and a pure breed black lab. Oscar is  full grown  and weighs a lot, about 63 pounds. Oscar is a clumsy dog. He even ran in to a glass door because he thought it was open. My brother told me that Oscar fell down when he did that.  I thought that Oscar would be dazed and unsteady on  his paws. He looked around to see if anyone was looking at him . Me and my brother and sister thought it was funny. It proves that Oscar is a clumsy dog

the Nintendo 3 DS system

  Author's note:  i am a Nintendo 3 DS system

Hi , I am a Nintendo 3DS system . I sat on a shelf everyday at Best Buy .The routine was  the same everyday until Mrs.Ward bought me. She brought me into her house , took me to the basement and hid me.  Several days later she returned to the basement and I felt her  wrapping me in Santa paper. Then she put me under the tree  on Christmas Eve.

On Chirstmas morning  my wrapping was torn and I was naked. The girl  who got me  was so surprised and happy. Her name is Rachel .She is the nicest person I know.  Rachel  is nice because she cares for me.  Also she would never do anything that would harm  me.  Rachel plays with  me so much.   I am a Nintendo 3DS system and I had  very long journey just to get to Rachel but it has  been fun so far
